9to5Macによると、Xが「twitter.com」ドメインを廃止（retire）する準備を進めていることが明らかになりました。Xが2段階認証の再登録を求めたことから、この動きが浮上しました。
「twitter.com」ドメインを廃止へ
Xの安全対策アカウント（@Safety）が、ハードウェアセキュリティキーやパスキーを2段階認証（2FA）に使用しているユーザーに対し、2025年11月10日までに再登録を行うよう通知しました。

この理由をXでは以下のように説明しました。
To clarify: this change is not related to any security concern, and only impacts Yubikeys and passkeys – not other 2FA methods (such as authenticator apps). 2FA方法として登録されたセキュリティキーは現在、twitter[.]comドメインに紐づけられているため、x[.]comドメイン用に再登録が必要になるということです。これにより、技術的にはtwitter.comドメインを廃止することが可能になるとみられます。
これはYubikeyやパスキーだけに影響し、他の2FA方法（認証アプリなど）には影響しないとのこと。
今回のtwitter.comの“廃止”は恐らく使用を停止するということで、現在のtwitter.comからx.comへの転送も終了すると、多くの外部リンクや埋め込み機能に影響が及ぶでしょう。
これまでtwitter.comからx.comへの移行は段階的に進められてきました。
