検索窓からコマンドを入力して検索する「Smplr」という検索エンジンがありました。普通に検索するとGoogleに飛びます。

便利かどうかというのは、使う人次第といったところでしょうか。
日本でも同様のサービスとして、検索窓をランチャー代わりにする「StartCommand」というサービスがリリースされています。
