MacRumorsによると「iOS 18」と「iPadOS 18」は、外付けドライブのフォーマットをサポートするということです。iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Include Support for Formatting External Drivesという記事になっていました。

「iOS 18」「iPadOS 18」外付けドライブをフォーマット
「iOS 18」と「iPadOS 18」では、Macを必要とせずに外付けドライブのフォーマットが可能になっていることが明らかになりました。
「iPadOS 18」の「ファイル」アプリで、外付けドライブを右クリックまたは長押しして「消去」を選択すると、ドライブを再フォーマットするための新しいオプションが表示されることが確認されました。
フォーマットのオプションはAPFS、ExFAT、MS-DOS（FAT）となっており、ディスクユーティリティと同じフォーマットのオプションになっているとのこと。
「iPadOS 18」と「iOS 18」は、2024年秋にリリース予定です。
